Once again, St. Marguerite d’Youville is pleased to be hosting its “Terry Fox Walk” on Tuesday, September 26 (rain date is Wednesday, September 27). We at St. Marguerite d’Youville continue to have two very important goals for our walk; to have all of our students be able to articulate why Terry has become such a historic figure within our Canadian history, and to raise funds in his memory towards his dream of one day finding a cure for cancer. Through our participation, we hope that students will be able to view themselves as agents of positive change. Toward these goals, we at St. Marguerite d’Youville will be asking our FDK to Grade 8 students to bring in an optional $2.00 cash donation (in a clearly-marked and sealed ziplock bag with the words “Toonie for Terry”) on Tuesday, September 26. Alternatively, parents/guardians may go on-line and donate to: Terry Fox Fundraising Page – SMD. This will take you directly to the St. Marguerite d’Youville school page. Please click “Donate” and fill out the required information. You may also leave an inspirational message, if you so choose. Since 2010, St. Marguerite d’Youville has raised a total of $10,049.19! The Walking Excursion Form went home with your child/children on the first day of school. Please ensure it has been signed and returned to the school. We will be walking as a school group and begin exiting the school at approximately 9:15 a.m. by descending order of Grades 8 to FDK, one class at a time, towards our walking path. Our Grades 1 to 8 students will begin their walk along the pathway, behind our school and continue up the path to Tower Hill Road and then back along Rollinghill Road back to the school. Our JK and SK students will also take the back path, walk to the “frog bridge” as we have already “nicknamed” it and then head back along the path to the school. Students are encouraged to wear red and white on Thursday, September 26 in support of Terry Fox, an outstanding Canadian role model! We appreciate the involvement of our parent community for the event. We are inviting all of our parents/guardians who would like to walk with their child to please arrive at our school by 9:00 a.m. Please wait outside towards the walking path area (near the parking lot) and join your child’s class as they proceed out and head towards the back pathway area. We are very proud to be associated with the Terry Fox Foundation and believe that our involvement will be such a positive launch to our school year. Let’s keep Terry’s dream alive!
